Ottawa fire crews were called to the Rideau River Thursday to rescue three dogs in the water on the ice along the Rideau River in Manotick.
The department received a call around 11:32 a.m. saying a person on the ice was attempting to help the three dogs.
“All crews (were) deployed to see how they will assist this person,” said fire spokesperson Danielle Cardinal.
The dogs were described as two retrievers and one sheepdog-type dog.
Shortly after noon, the three animals were rescued. It was unclear whether they made their own way to the ice, but firefighters had deployed specialized water craft to assist in the operation.
The fire service reminded dog owner to leash their pets near area waterways.
