Jonathan Pitre meant a lot to a great many people in this city.

There was, however, a very special bond between him and his favourite team, the Ottawa Senators.

(They did, after all, sign him as a pro scout.)

No matter how much pain he was in, Jonathan never stopped cheering for the Sens.

And the Sens never stopped cheering for him.

When news of his passing spread on Friday morning, the Senators were quick to respond:

In tribute, the Senators also changed the images on both ther Facebook and Twitter pages:

The Sens, as a sweet, subtle touch, also added a butterfly to their Twitter username.

Children with epidermolysis bullosa are often referred to as Butterfly children.

Julie and Kyle Turris, who was traded to Nashville earlier this year, had a special relationship with Jonathan. Julie tweeted out a heartfelt message when she heard the news:

Jonathan was the most positive, inspiring, mature, courageous, kind, compassionate human being I’ve ever met. His strength was only matched by his incredible mom. Sending Tina so much love. He made this world a better place, looking to the Northern Lights for you Jonathan. ??
