<HTML>I would like to buy a PC for my work at home. Could you please suggest me some best stores to buy a PC (and their web sites if available)? I cannot specify my request, but I think the best is to have a good configeration yet the price is affordable. Thanks for any advice.</HTML>

<HTML>It would be better if you know pc enough that you can assemble one by yourself, from your question, seems not. There are quite some stores have decent prices, OEM Express, Fx etc., they can't make too much profit on parts anyway. Try to avoid buying a system from a none brand name vender...</HTML>

RE: Does ur work at home mean business?

<HTML>Suggest lease a one with brand, which can deduct your business income.
If you are computer professional (not just IT professional), you can try to buy all parts from the store, such as OEM Express, and make it work. But you should prepare have some hard time to make it work well.
If you want to chose a one with brand, DELL is a good choice. I ordered a one online when I came here the first week, got it within one week. It has worked very well for one year and half, and still has one year and half warranty. I even don't feel it is slow now after I upgrade RAM and HD by myself.
Good Luck!

RE: Does ur work at home mean business?

<HTML>Hi
I know a man from China do the computer business with reasonable price. I bought one set of system from his company several weeks ago.
He name is Tang Sen and tel is 613-523-5388.</HTML>

RE: Does ur work at home mean business?

<HTML>Thank you all for the reply and those are very helpful.
I use PC for work at home does not mean I have a business of my own. Rather I sometimes need to use it to write assignments, research papers and running programs that I usually do them in the lab (a biological lab). With a computer at home I can use it at night and weekends instead of going to the school.
As for Dell, it has a good quality but they charge shipping fee as high as $150...

</HTML>

RE: coz Unfortunately we are in Canada.

<HTML>If we were in U.S, there is no shipping and handing fee for DELL.
But you'd better count all together and compare the total amount with other brand such as COMPAQ to make your deicision.
Good Luck!</HTML>

RE: Does ur work at home mean business?

<HTML>IPC is dead cheap with a brand name. Check their ads. Several years ago when I was in China, we used to sell this brand name computers, don't know if they are the same though. </HTML>

RE: Does ur work at home mean business?

<HTML>I bought a IPC 350 with a monitor for $299 one and half year ago for my son. So far just the floppy disk drive has something wrong, all others are working well. One store is located at Woodroof and Marivale.</HTML>

RE: Does ur work at home mean business?

<HTML>Following your suggestions, finally I have bought a "brand name" computer and with the newest Windows XP preinstalled. The next question is:
What is the cheapest way to connet it to the internet?
The Rogers @home costs $40 per month, which is too expensive for a student. Any suggestions?
</HTML>

RE: Does ur work at home mean business?

<HTML>go istop.com, tell ralph that a current user introduce you, you might get $30/m without paying modem rental.

also sympatico is having a promotion now, $20/m for half year without rental fee. after that, $40/m(+rental?) I think.</HTML>

RE: Does ur work at home mean business?

<HTML>I didn't see equipment rental fee in my sympatico bill.</HTML>

[%sig%]

<b>RE: Does ur work at home mean business?</b>

<HTML>Rogers has the same promotion, the first month free, $20/m for six months without modem rental fee. After 6 months, $40/m per month without modem rental fee. As the same price, rogers is faster than sympatico. :P</HTML>

RE: try Edunet

<HTML>Try Edunet, it's 120 dollars for the whole year. By the way, CloudRain, do you know where the ad is being use for? I mean "when it rains, it pours"?</HTML>

RE: try Edunet

<HTML>Cool, Riven, I found my signiture is updated dynamically.</HTML>

RE: try Edunet

<HTML>Thank you all for kind suggestions which are so useful. I have solved the networking problem with your advice. Isn't it efficient?

Yes, I was also wondering the meaning of "when it rains, it pours". C.R. has given us an excellent answer:
Even the darkest cloud has a silver side... esp. after raining.
Shall we be more optimistic?!:-)

BTW, I have yet more questions - for the first time being a "proud" owner of a computer, I always have questions of this and that. The questions now are:
1) How to use the 56K Fax/Modem of the computer to send a fax?
2) Is it possible to receive a fax?

Thanks again for instructions.</HTML>
