About the North American Indigenous Games
The North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) began in the 1990's and are a vehicle to support the development of Indigenous athletes and cultural self-determination. The NAIG celebrates the athletic achievements and distinct cultural heritage of Indigenous youth and their communities from across Turtle Island (North America), with seven days of sport competitions and cultural activities. The 2017 NAIG, which took place in Toronto, Ontario, featured more than 5,000 participants, competing in 14 sports, generating an economic impact of $44.3 million. The NAIG is listed as Call to Action #88 in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report outlining 94 Calls to Action. For more about the NAIG, visit www.naigcouncil.com. The 2020 NAIG will be the tenth edition and the 30-year anniversary of the Games.
