The Ottawa police services board is beginning a national hunt to find the force’s newest deputy chief.

The position is open to both currently serving members of the force and those who are external to the organization.

“We recognize the strong caliber (sic) of the current senior leadership team at the OPS however we also know the benefits of casting a wider net as we look to find the best candidate for the job,” board chair Coun. Eli El-Chantiry said in a news release.

Deputy Chief Jill Skinner, whose contract was extended in January 2015 along with Chief Charles Bordeleau’s, will be leaving the force when her contract ends in June.

Bordeleau’s contract is slated to end in 2019. Deputy Chief Steve Bell was only appointed to his position in 2016.

The police board has hired an executive search firm to help with find the force’s newest second-in-command.

That firm, Odgers Berndtson, will be accepting applications until May 1. The board expects to conduct interviews with short-listed applicants in June.
