For the Love of Wakanda is a cocktail inspired by two movies: the classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and the revolutionary Black Panther.
Jason Frederick of Ottawa’s Common Eatery created the recipe by mixing elements of his two favourite films. With hints of chocolate tea, chiles, cherry juice, honey, lime and vanilla, what’s not to love?
The bourbon-based beverage won the Public’s Choice award at the Ottawa regional Made With Love competition in March. Made With Love is a craft cocktail event, featuring mixology competitions. It has spread rapidly since it was founded in 2009 in Montreal. In 2018, regional competitions were held in B.C., Alberta, Manitoba, Quebec, Nova Scotia and Ontario.
Frederick, and his chocolaty Black Panther beverage, will compete at the National Made With Love competition on April 30, in Ottawa.
Also representing Ottawa at the national finals Monday, is Eric Romolock, from fauna. Romolock won the Judges’ Choice award with his Cirka Vodka Terroir-based cocktail.
