An Ottawa man has been charged with arson after a fire on Sunday tore through a motel room in Nipigon, about 100 kilometres northeast of Thunder Bay.
Ontario Provincial Police said they received information about the fire around 6:20 a.m. The blaze, which was contained to a single room at the motel, was doused with fire extinguishers, but not before it caused “extensive damage.”
OPP allege the fire was intentionally set. Police said they found the occupant of the motel room walking on Highway 17, east of Nipigon.
An Ottawa man, 27, was charged with two counts of arson and held for bail.
The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal was also notified.
