The Sûreté du Québec’s highway patrol had a busy overnight shift, including pulling a driver who wasn’t just going more than double the posted 70 km/h limit, he was impaired.
Police made the collar just before 1 a.m. Thursday in the first kilometre stretch of northbound Highway 5 in Gatineau. The driver, a 28-year-old Gatineau man, was going more than 150 km/h in a 70 km/h zone. His license was also suspended on the spot for 90 days and he got a $1,523 ticket and 18 demerit points.
He is to appear in court in Gatineau Sept. 20 where he’s expected to face an impaired driving charge.
A few hours earlier, SQ officers nabbed another fast-mover, also on the northbound Highway 5. This driver, a 25-year-old Gatineau man, was going 120 km/h in a 70 km/h zone in the city. He got an $806 fine, 10 demerit points and a seven-day driver’s license suspension.
