Water levels are expected to rise over the weekend on the Ottawa River.
Snowmelt runoff from the nearby watershed – an area where rain or snow drains or seeps into a body of water – is expected to work its way into the Ottawa River. This, combined with the rainy weather, is expected to cause the river to rise, according to the Ottawa River Regulation Planning Board.
While extensive flooding is not expected at this time, the board is warning the public that the banks around the river could become slippery, and that the water will be moving very quickly and is still very cold.
The warning is in effect until May 7, as next week’s warm and sunny weather is expected to help the river fall back to its normal level.
