Ottawa firefighters received an unpleasant surprise Friday afternoon after fireworks began exploding at the site of a mobile home fire in North Gower.
Firefighters were called to lot on Mackey Road at around 1 p.m. and found two mobile homes on the site engulfed in flames.
As they battled, small explosions were heard. A few minutes later it was determined that a truck trailer on the site contained several boxes of commercial grade fireworks.
Firefighters was hampered because there was no hydrant close by and water was trucked from an outlet around Viola Street.
The fire engulfed two mobile homes, a trailer unit containing fireworks, and a number of vehicles. Propane tanks were carefully removed from the area.
All residents of the property have been accounted for and there are no injuries, said Fire Services.
Drivers are asked to avoid the scene on Mackey Road, between Malakoff and McCordick roads, while fire crews continue to extinguish hot spots.
A fire investigator is en route.
