Police Chief Charles Bordeleau will attend a community meeting in the south end of Ottawa on Monday night to discuss safety after recent shootings in the area.
There is growing concern over gun violence in the city, said Coun. Diane Deans in a notice on her website about the meeting. Residents can learn about safety and crime prevention at a fair that includes tables operated by Ottawa Police Service, Crime Prevention Ottawa, Crime Stoppers and city bylaw services. Bordeleau will give a presentation at 7 p.m., followed by questions and answers.
There were three reports of shots fired in the same week in south Ottawa in April. No one was injured but police found shell casings after responding to residents who reported hearing gunfire. The incidents were in the Heron Gate neighbourhood on Baycrest Drive near Heron Road; on Ledbuy Avenue near Banff Avenue; and near Cedarwood Drive and Walkley Road.
In January, two men were taken to hospital and the police guns & gangs unit began an investigation after a shooting near Walkley Road and Baycrest Drive.
Community safety meeting
Where: Jim Durrell Recreation Centre, 1265 Walkley Rd.
Information fair: 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Presentation from police chief: 7 to 7:30 p.m.
Questions and answers: 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
