Police are asking for help identifying a theft and robbery suspect they allege ripped off two LCBO stores, in one case armed with a small wooden bat he swung at staff.
In the first incident at 7:22 p.m. on Jan. 8, police said a man walked into an outlet on Strandherd Drive, selected “numerous” bottles of alcohol, hid them on his person then left without paying.
Then on Jan. 25 at 7:21 p.m., the same man walked into another outlet on West Hunt Club Road at Merivale Road and again allegedly selected and concealed bottles. This time he was confronted by staff. Police said he pulled the bat from his coat, brandished it at staff, then fled. No one was hurt.
The suspect is described as an Asian male, 25 to 30 years old and of average height and weight. In the first incident, he was wearing tan pants, a black coat and white hat as captured in surveillance images released by police.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Ottawa police’s robbery unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5116. Anonymous tips can be made to Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 or by downloading the Ottawa police app.
