Part of the ByWard Market was closed on Tuesday night as emergency services responded to reports of a gas leak.
George Street between Dalhousie Street and Sussex Drive was closed to pedestrians as Ottawa Fire Services investigated. The leak was reported shortly before 10 p.m.
Much of the area was blocked off by Ottawa police, who were called in by the fire department to assist with the scene.
Several businesses in the area were closed, and there were reports of a strong smell of gas in the area. Pedestrians were advised to remain indoors.
Ottawa paramedics said no one needed to be transported to hospital and that no one was reporting any injuries or effects of gas exposure but that they were remaining on scene to monitor the situation and assess for the possibility of carbon monoxide exposure.
