The province’s Special Investigations Unit has been called in after two Lanark OPP officers and a civilian were injured during a confrontation involving an aggressive dog in Almonte on Tuesday.

OPP say two officers were injured after they were confronted by the dog while following up on an investigation at a home just before 10:30 a.m.

The homeowner also suffered a non-life threatening injury in the confrontation, say OPP.

The OPP has notified the SIU, an independent civilian police watchdog, about the incident. The SIU has invoked its mandate to investigate the case.

The SIU conducts criminal investigations into circumstances involving police and civilians that result in serious injury, death or allegations of sexual assault.

It is unclear what happened in the confrontation in Almonte. Neither the SIU nor the police agency involved in an investigation releases any more information about an incident after the SIU steps in until the SIU reaches a conclusion as to whether the evidence leads to the reasonable belief that a criminal offence has been committed.
