In a sure sign of summer, city splash pads open Wednesday but it looks like Mother Nature has her own way of cooling off with showers and thunderstorms in the forecast.

Wednesday’s forecast is for increasing cloudiness and a 40 per cent chance of morning showers. A “few” showers with thunderstorms should begin around noon. The high is 24 C but the humidex 30.

For Wednesday night, expect a few showers with thunderstorms ending in the evening then mainly cloudy skies with a 60 per cent chance of more showers. The low is expected to be 14 C.

Thursday looks mainly cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of morning showers and northwesterly winds at 30 km/h gusting to 50, a high of 18 C and low of 10 C.

Friday’s forecast is for sunny skies, a high of 25 C and a low of 12 C.

Saturday is the first day that lifeguards are on duty at Petrie Island beaches, as well as Britannia, Mooney’s Bay and Westboro as the mercury looks to be headed to 28 C under a mix of sun and cloud. The low is expected to be 15 C.

Mixed skies are forecast to be back for Father’s Day Sunday with a high of 25 C and low of 18 C.

The risk of rain returns Monday with mixed skies forecast, a 40 per cent chance of showers, a high of 15 C and low of 14 C.

Tuesday’s outlook is pure sunshine and 26 C.
