NCC, Ottawa beaches open just in time for warmer temperatures

Friday dawned cool and foggy but skies are set to clear up on the way to a high of 25, just in time for the official opening of the National Capital Commissions seven beaches.

But wear your sunblock, the UV index is expected to hit 8, or very high.

Friday night’s low should drop to 12 C.

Lifeguards will be on duty at the Ottawa beaches for the first time on Saturday, which is forecast to be sunny with a high of 27 C and an even higher UV index of 9.

Clouds should start to roll in Saturday afternoon along with some humidity that will make it feel like 28. Overnight, expect cloudy periods and a low of 17 C.

Mixed skies and a 30 per cent chance of showers are on tap for Sunday with a high of 28 C and low of 22 C.

For Monday, expect a mix of sun and cloud, a 40 per cent chance of showers both day and night, a high of 26 C and low of 15 C.

Pure sunshine returns Tuesday with a high of 27 C and low of 15 C.

A few clouds creep in Wednesday with a high of 28 C and low of 15 C.

Thursday is a perfect beach day with sunny skies and a high of 29.

The NCC swimming spots having their official opening Friday include six on Meech, Philippe and La Pêche lakes in Gatineau Park and one on Leamy Lake.

Lifeguards are on duty at O’Brien, Blanchet, Breton, Parent and La Pêche Lake beaches from 10 am to 6 pm and at Leamy Lake beach from 10 am to 7 pm. Smith Beach is accessible only to those staying at the Philippe Lake campground.

Lifeguards will be on duty at Ottawa’s supervised beaches at Petrie Island, Britannia, Mooney’s Bay and Westboro from noon to 7 p.m. starting Saturday.
