The Special Investigations Unit watchdog agency has cleared Ottawa police of any responsibility in the case of an April 30 stabbing incident in Orléans.
According to the SIU report, officers responding to calls regarding a domestic situation found a man hiding under the deck of an east end home at around 5:30 p.m.
Police said the 43-year-old man told them that he had stabbed himself in the chest and that he wanted to die. The man was transported by ambulance to hospital where he was treated for the stab wound.
SIU investigators have determined that the man’s injury was self-inflicted and have terminated the investigation into this incident.
The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault involving police.
