The OPP is seeking witnesses after two people were injured Sunday when a family of ducks crossing busy Highway 401 caused a chained reaction sudden stop that forced a minivan into the ditch.
A man and his 10-year-old son suffered injuries that aren’t considered life-threatening in the incident.
It happened at about 8:50 a.m. in the eastbound lanes about three kilometres west of Joyceville Road.
A white vehicle, possibly a Kia, suddenly stopped to let the fowl go first.
The family’s gold minivan swerved to avoid the white vehicle, went into the south ditch and hit a tree. The white vehicle then left the scene.
Police reminded motorists that before trying to avoid hitting animals or debris on the roadway, they should consider the safety of other road users.
They asked that witnesses contact the Frontenac OPP detachment at 1-888-310-1122.
