A green energy rebate program launched in 2017 by former premier Kathleen Wynne has been cancelled by her successor Doug Ford.
The newly-elected conservative premier-designate closed the rebate program under the Green Ontario Fund as of Tuesday.
The provincial website indicates if you’re already enrolled for a rebate, it will be honoured as long as a work agreement had been signed with a participating contractor for work that will be completed by Aug. 31, 2018.
The program was initially introduced to Ontario families on Dec. 13, 2017, to access rebates to complete low-carbon, energy-efficient renovations to homes.
The rebates were available through the Green Ontario Fund, a non-profit provincial agency funded by proceeds from the province’s cap on pollution and carbon market.
Some of the programs covered up to $7,200 for new insulation; up to $20,000 to install Energy Star-certified ground source heat pumps; and up to $5,000 to replace windows that meet program requirements.
