RBC Bluesfest organizers say that a “few new preventative measures” including metal detectors and limits on bag sizes will boost the “safe and welcoming” atmosphere at Ottawa’s biggest summer festival.

The measures, revealed in an update to the festival’s website, are in addition to the previously-announced end to in-and-out privileges for the July 5-15 event.

The walk-through metal detectors are like the ones at the Ottawa airport and Canadian Tire Centre, organizers say.

As in previous years, festivalgoers are subjected to searches of their person and bags, which can now be a maximum size of 12″x12″x6″ unless they’re for diapers or medical needs.

And bag-free express lines are back.

A hefty list of what not to bring includes the usual booze and drugs but also “weapons, gang colour or contraband” plus laser pointers, drones and fireworks.
