A provincewide blitz of commercial transport trucks saw Ontario Provincial Police stop 1,692 vehicles, laying a total of 697 charges against the drivers.
The blitz, which occurred over a 24-hour period starting on June 13, also resulted in 63 of the trucks to be taken off the road.
Speeding led the list of offences against the truck drivers, with 226 charges laid. Defective equipment ranked second and saw 176 tickets issued.
A total of 28 charges were laid for distracted driving, 18 charges were laid for following a vehicle too closely, 10 charges were laid for unsafe lane changes and 107 charges were laid for drivers not wearing their seat belts.
OPP said further such crackdowns are planned.
