You know it’s a summer weekend in Ottawa when you’ll need both heavy-duty sunblock and an umbrella.

First up is a scorchingly-sunny Friday. Then the risk of rain arrives for the weekend.

By Monday morning, it’s back to dry skies and some sunshine.

From a cool 10 C at dawn, Friday’s forecast is for the mercury to rise to 25 C with a UV index of 10 or very high, Environment Canada predicts. The forecast is for increasingly heavy clouds after midnight with a low of 15 C.

Saturday looks cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of showers day and night, a UV index of just 5 or moderate, a high of 21 C and a low of 15 C.

The risk of rain rises to 60 per cent Sunday with a high of 21 C. Overnight, there’s a 40 per cent chance of showers and a low of 12 C.

Mixed skies, a high of 24 C and a low of 12 C are forecast for Monday.

Then summer bounces back with highs of 28 C Tuesday and 29 C Wednesday before a 30 per cent chance of showers returns Wednesday night.

The long-range forecast for Thursday is for a 40 per cent chance of showers and high of 28 C.
