Ottawa police are seeking assistance in locating two suspects in connection with the brazen theft of a shopping cart-load of portable vacuum cleaners and coffee makers.

Police said the theft occurred last Saturday at about 5 p.m. at a store in the 2000 block of Mer Bleue Road.

The primary suspect entered the store, grabbed a cart and filled it with the vacuums and coffee makers.

He left and started to load the loot into the back of a dark-coloured Mazda SUV parked outside.

Store staff intervened, but the suspect pulled a knife on them. A staffer managed to grab the cart with some of the goods that hadn’t been loaded into the Mazda.

The suspect jumped into the car, driven by a second man, and fled.

The first suspect is described as Caucasian, about 40 years old, about five-feet-eight-inches tall, with a heavyset build. He was also described as balding, with a disheveled appearance.

There was no description given for the driver of the SUV, which was said to have damages to the front driver-side bumper, as well as to both front doors.

There was duct tape stripping along the top and right side of the rear window. There was no front plate and the rear plate had been covered.

Anyone with information is asked to call Ottawa police robbery squad at 613-236-1222, ext. 5116. Anonymous tips can be made to Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), or by downloading the Ottawa police app.
