A Napanee couple is facing a number criminal charges after the OPP says an elderly man was the victim of fraud for more than four-and-a-half years.
The OPP discovered the fraud while investigating a large arson investigation that involves one of the accused. The two cases are not related.
The provincial force said that their investigation revealed that the man and woman were defrauding the elderly man by issuing non-sufficient fund cheques and making and issuing fictitious invoices to obtain money from the man.
The OPP have jointly charged 39-year-old Rhonda Pickstock and 40-year-old Joseph Pickstock with fraud over $5,000, obtaining by false pretence over $5,000, making a forged document and use, deals acts on a forged document. Rhonda was arrested on June 14 and released on a promise to appear in court in July. Joseph was arrested on June 15 and was held to attend bail court on June 16.
Joseph and his younger brother Robert Pickstock were first charged in January in relation to a number of suspicious fires in Greater Napanee. The OPP said that their investigation then led them to suspicious fires in Prince Edward County. On June 18 police charged the brothers in connection to those as well. Both brothers are facing nearly 30 charges in relation to the arsons.
