Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk has engaged in negotiations to sell the franchise, according to NHL news site the Fourth Period, which says the information comes from an anonymous source “with direct knowledge of the situation.”
According to the source, Melnyk has received an offer for the Sens and that “offer had been considered,” according to a report by David Pagnotta that was posted online Thursday morning.
Pagnotta characterized his scoop as a sign that fans of the Ottawa Senators, who’ve struggled to stay patient, “may finally be getting what they’ve long asked for.”
The news comes on the heels of the team’s announcement Wednesday that parent company Capital Sports Holdings Inc. has completed a $135 million financing of a “six-year senior term debt with a syndicate of financial institutions.”
According to a brief statement from the club, there will be re-investment in the business and with the six-year term of the agreement it puts the Ottawa back in a better financial situation heading into next season.
