Ottawa police officers on bicycle patrol seized a handgun, cocaine and fentanyl during an arrest Friday evening.
An off-duty officer noticed “suspicious activity” along the Rideau Canal, near the intersection of Colonel By Drive and Daly Avenue.
When officers arrived at 7:40 p.m., they found several men smoking marijuana.
One of the group tried to flee but not before discarding a small fanny pack. When it was retrieved, police found a loaded semi-automatic handgun. Drugs and cash were also seized.
A man, whose identity was not released, is facing charges of drug trafficking and possessing a prohibited weapon.
