Happy Canada 151 everyone!

If you’ve never experienced a humidex of 47, today’s your chance.

Our friends at Environment Canada have put out a heat warning for Canada day. With high daytime temperatures and overnight lows in the low to mid twenties, there will be little or no relief from the heat.

Saturday should see a mix of sun and cloud with 30 per cent chance of showers this afternoon with risk of a thunderstorm. (We’ll keep you posted on any thunderstorm watches or warnings.)

Winds will be from the southwest at 15 km per hour.

Fog patches will dissipate this morning. The high is predicted to be 36 C, with a humidex of 47. UV index will be 9 or very high. The low should be 23 C tonight.

The hot weather that hit the capital Saturday June 30, 2018, meant people hit Mooney’s Bay beach to cool down in the Rideau River.

Monday will see sun the morning and early in the afternoon then a mix of sun and cloud with 60 per cent chance of showers late in the afternoon.

There’s a risk of a thunderstorm late in the afternoon, and gusting winds out of the southwest. The humidex should be a mere 45.

It would be a good day to check on elderly neighbours and vulnerable people, and keep your electrolyte levels up.

We’ve got a whole list of Canada Day goings-on, so have (safe) fun out there.

Because Canada Day falls on a Sunday, it’s a tricky holiday and most stores are open Sunday and closed Monday.

Here’s what’s open and closed over the weekend.

Ottawa beaches are also open today.
