On this post-Canada Day holiday Monday, the bright side is that there’s no expectation that you’ll be downtown standing in the heat.

Temperatures over 30 C are expected to continue throughout the week, with some relief in sight by Friday.

Environment Canada is predicting sun Monday morning and early this afternoon then a mix of sun and cloud with 60 per cent chance of showers or a thunderstorm late in the afternoon.

Winds will become southwest 20 km/hour gusting to 40 near noon with a high of 34 C and a humidex of 44. The UV index will be 9 or very high.

This evening should see a 60 per cent chance of showers, with risk of a thunderstorm, and a low of 18 overnight.

Tuesday is looking marginally better with a high of 32 C and the humidex, a mere 36.

What’s open and closed today you ask? Here’s what you need to know.

Also, here are reports for local beaches.
