A family of four were forced to evacuate their home on Monday after Ottawa firefighters were called to respond to a fire that started in the home’s bedroom.
Just after noon, Ottawa Fire Services responded to a call on Parkland Crescent that a mattress was on fire in a second-floor bedroom of a single-family home. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze relatively quickly, and by 12:30 they had declared the fire under control.
Damage, said a spokesperson for OFS, is estimated around $20,000.
Nobody was injured in the fire, as OFS said that the family was able to evacuate prior to their arrival. They are expected to be able to return to their home, though not immediately.
Though they did not release the cause of the fire, OFS said that they were not sending a fire investigator to the scene of the fire.
