The City’s Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee today recommended approving a by-law requiring City Council oversight should there be an application for additional gaming tables at the Hard Rock Casino. Any such application would need to be considered by both the Committee and Council.
In May, Council directed staff to initiate the by-law, to prevent further increases made through an application for a minor variance through the Committee of Adjustment.
The arena in the Manotick Community Centre, at 5572 Doctor Leach Drive, could soon be called the Mike O’Neil Arena after the Committee recommended approving the commemorative renaming.
Mr. O’Neil has been a devoted community advocate for the village of Manotick through his involvement with the Manotick Community Association, the Manotick Culture, Parks and Recreation Association, the Manotick Masters Hockey League, the Manotick Monday Night Hockey League and the Manotick Community Centre Expansion Committee. He has also been a coach and served on the executive committee of the Osgoode Rideau Minor Hockey Association.
Items from today’s Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee meeting requiring City Council approval will go to Council on Wednesday, July 11.
