The name of Centrepointe Theatres, located at Ben Franklin Place at 110 Centrepointe Drive, has officially changed to Meridian Theatres at Centrepointe, thanks to a sponsorship agreement between the City of Ottawa and Meridian, Canada’s third largest credit union.
Mayor Jim Watson, Councillor Rick Chiarelli and Wanita Fonseka, Vice President, Retail Banking at Meridian, officially unveiled the new name today at Meridian Theatres at Centrepointe.
The sponsorship agreement is part of the City’s ongoing Community Champions Program, which provides sponsors with year-round recognition for their contribution to improving the lives of Ottawa residents where they live, work and play.
Meridian will pay $65,000 annually for 15 years, for a total of $975,000.

- The 954-seat Centrepointe Theatre opened in 1988. A 199-seat studio theatre was added in 2010.
- Meridian is designated a Community Champion Builder (for an annual investment between $35,000 to $74,999.
- Other Community Champion partners have included: IceNet Wireless, Richcraft, RBC, Coca-Cola, Minto, Swim Ottawa and Myers Automotive Group, Surgenor GMC, and Surgenor Hyundai.
- To date, revenue generated through the Community Champions program totals $1,573,100 since 2012. This does not include today’s announcement.
