A new City of Ottawa Archives’ exhibit opened to the public today. Postcards from Ottawa: Traveller Tales, opened in the Barbara Ann Scott Gallery and will remain until 2023.
Postcards from Ottawa: Traveller Tales invites you to take a brief journey across Ottawa’s history through individuals that have come to this city. Some stayed to live, many moved on, but all, in their own way, engaged Ottawa and its people.
The exhibit includes other artefacts on display and a picture wall of dignitaries and celebrities who have visited during the last 400 years.
The Barbara Ann Scott Gallery is located at 110 Laurier Avenue West at City Hall and is open daily from 9 am to 6 pm. The exhibit is free and is wheelchair accessible.
Quotes
“It’s wonderful to see so much of the City’s history captured here. We’ve had many famous visitors to Ottawa throughout the years and many have left an indelible mark on the city and its residents. There is over 400 years of Ottawa’s history on display for all residents and visitors, especially families, to enjoy.”
Mayor Jim Watson
“It is exciting to see so many photos and artefacts that would likely be in storage if not for this space at the Barbara Ann Scott Gallery As caretakers of the City’s history, it is great to be able to share part of the Archives’ collection with our residents. I encourage you to drop by the Postcards from Ottawa: Traveller Tales exhibit and learn about parts of Ottawa’s history you may not know. ”
Somerset Ward Councillor Catherine McKenney
