Ottawa – The City’s Community and Protective Services Committee today approved two commemorative naming proposals.

The lobby in the McNabb Recreation Centre could soon be named after Barbara Selkirk, a City employee who worked for 26 years at the Percy Street facility. Ms. Selkirk advocated for inclusivity and accessibility, partnering with Capital Pride Youth and the City’s Corporate Accessibility Office to provide a safe, inclusive and accepting environment.

The future park at 710 Mikinak Road, north of Montfort Hospital, could be named after Ottawa’s first francophone mayor, Eugène Martineau Park. Mr. Martineau was also the second vice-president of the Institut canadien-français d’Ottawa and the first vice-president of the Société Saint-Jean-Baptiste d’Ottawa.

Items from today’s Community and Protective Services Committee will go to City Council on Wednesday, September 26.
