Assistance continues for residents for clean-up following the tornado and windstorm.

Residents who need help removing debris on their property following the tornadoes should first contact their private insurance company.

Some properties built before 1980 may contain asbestos. Please contact your insurance provider for direction. Information on asbestos is available at ottawapublichealth.ca/tornado.

If residents require assistance beyond what their insurance is able to provide, they may be eligible to recoup costs through the Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians program.

The Province of Ontario has also provided $1.7 million in funding to the City of Ottawa. These funds support the clean-up efforts on roadways, sidewalks and in parks in the affected neighbourhoods. Funds also support the skilled volunteers available to work on private property through the Non-Governmental Organization Alliance.

Residents who have tree and brush removal needs that are not covered by their private insurance or Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians may receive assistance through the Non-Governmental Organization Alliance. The Non-Governmental Organization Alliance volunteers are insured and have the ability to work on private properties.

To request assistance, residents can call 1-844-547-2663.

Residents should register as soon as possible for assistance. The availability of the Non-Governmental Organization Alliance is limited and provided on a first come-first served basis.
