So, it’s going to be one of those weekends.
A little bit of all of the worst winter weather stuff.
It all begins with a chance of freezing drizzle and fog on Saturday morning.
That system should clear up by midday and the afternoon, although probably fairly messy, should be decent with a high of 3 C.
The mini-thaw has prompted a temporary closure of the full Rideau Skateway.
Snow should begin to fall by the evening and continue throughout the night. Environment Canada is expecting about 2 cm.
Be careful on the roads and sidewalks as conditions may be slippery.
Tonight’s low is -3 C with a wind chill near -8.
On Sunday, expect a huge drop in temperature.
While the daytime high should be near -4 C, Sunday’s low will plummet to -21 C.
That’s an especially big swing from today’s high.
Monday’s high (and low) will be -12 C.
And, Mondays being Mondays, several centimetres of snow are expected to make driving all that much more enjoyable.
The snow will taper off on Tuesday morning and the mercury will jump to 2 C during the day.
By Tuesday night, the temperature will be -4 C.
Wednesday will be more seasonal, with a high of -4 C and a low of -16 C. Some flurries are also expected but by later that day – and then for the rest of the week – we should finally get a good dose of sun.
If you happen to be heading out of town – somewhere with less cloud cover this weekend – try looking up at night.
An Aurora Borealis alert was issued on Friday and sometimes these events can bleed into the next day.
