The City of Ottawa is asking residents to avoid parking on City roads whenever possible over the weekend to assist with snow plowing operations.

In addition, there will be some no parking zones identified in the City to permit snow plowing operations. These areas will be clearly marked with temporary no parking signage.

The ongoing snow storms that have impacted the region over the past two weeks have created a challenging environment for both snow plowing and snow removal operations across the City. The combination of snow and freezing rain expected this weekend will pose further challenges for winter operations.

The overnight parking ban is in effect, meaning vehicles are not permitted to park on any City street between 1 am and 7 am. However the City is also asking residents to voluntarily avoid parking on City streets over the weekend in advance of and following the ban to support the snow plow operations.

There will be no parking permitted on streets where the red “No Parking” temporary signage is placed, and these parking restriction will be enforced.

The City continues snow operations 24/7 in an effort to respond to the continuing heavy snowfalls.

City Winter Operations

Plowing, sanding & gritting of sidewalks and residential roads will be ongoing. Combo plow trucks have been deployed from the onset of the snow and will continue to plow and salt the arterial roads. All sidewalk units will be deployed to plow and to apply abrasives to sidewalks and bus stops. Plowing, sanding and gritting resources will be deployed over the remainder of the transportation network as necessary as the weather or road conditions change.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways, and parking lots may become snow covered, icy and slippery.
