Candidates for councillor as well as registered third parties for the 2019 Rideau-Rockcliffe By-election are permitted to place election signs on private properties, with permission of the resident or business, beginning Thursday, February 14, 2019. This is 60 days before Voting Day, which is Monday, April 15, 2019.

The full regulations for election signs on private property in the city of Ottawa are set out in the Temporary Signs on Private Property By-law, and all signs must conform to this by-law.

Signs on public properties will only be permitted beginning Saturday, March 16, 2019, which is 30 days before Voting Day. Signs on public property cannot be placed along highways or in a median, and must be at least 50 centimetres from a sidewalk. In areas with no sidewalks, signs must be at least two metres from the roadway or, if the roadway has a shoulder, at least 50 centimetres from the edge of the shoulder.

The full regulations for election signs on public property in the city of Ottawa are set out in the Signs on City Roads By-law.

Signs on both private and public properties must be removed 48 hours after Voting Day.
