Scope
Under the direction of the Child Care Supervisor, is responsible for planning and implementing a program of developmentally appropriate activities that encourages optimal growth and development in children.
Note: Position is available at Parkwood Hills Child Care Centre, however, an employee may be re-assigned to another Child Care Center, depending upon the Employer’ s requirements.
Statement of Qualifications
Early Childhood Education Diploma (2 year diploma) or an equivalency certificate provided by the Association for Early Childhood Education of Ontario (AECEO)
B.A. in Psychology, Recreology or Education acceptable in Kindergarten School Age Programs only
A minimum of two years experience working with children in a group setting. Experience must be with children 4 to 10 years old for Kindergarten School Age programs
Completions of health and safety training required by legislation and by the Corporation of the City of Ottawa.
・The successful candidate will be required to complete a criminal clearance to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction

・Plan and implement developmentally appropriate programs for children in a group setting
・Effectively supervise children during their daily routines
・Recognize and support the specific needs of individual children
・Effectively use the principles of Early Childhood Education
・Performs work in accordance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all City Of Ottawa corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety
Child development age appropriate to the program
Appropriate behaviour management techniques
Fire, health and safety regulations
Municipal center policies and procedures
Working knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety legislation
・ General knowledge of corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to health and safety
・ Communicates effectively with parents, staff and children
・ Demonstrates tact, discretion and good judgement
・ Adaptable to changing demands
・ Demonstrates initiative and creativity
・ Works co-operatively in a team setting
・ Demonstrates an anti-racist attitude
・ Reliable, with a good record of attendance
・ Demonstrates leadership in decision making
Language
・ Bilingualism would be considered an asset.
