Upcoming events and projects will have the following impacts on Ottawa traffic:
Highway 417 – The Highway 417 eastbound on and off ramps at Maitland Avenue will be closed for one week as part of the Queensway Expansion East plan.
Elgin Street - Jack Purcell Lane will remain closed at Waverley Street for up to three weeks for deep sewer installation, as part of the Elgin Street Renewal project. Frank Street is open to route westbound traffic across Elgin. Access to the Jack Purcell Community Centre is being maintained via Lewis Street. The pedestrian pathway through Jack Purcell Park is also closed and pedestrian detours and signage are in place along Elgin, Metcalfe, Gilmour and Frank streets to temporarily direct pedestrians around the park. Chaudière Bridge – On Tuesday, May 14, the Government of Canada announced that the Union Bridge on the Chaudière Crossing will remain closed to motorists until August 2019, due to elevated water levels and planned construction. Once water levels recede, the bridge will reopen for public transit, pedestrian and cyclist use only.
St. Joseph Boulevard – Motorists can expect intermittent lane closures on St. Joseph Boulevard, weekdays between 9 am and 3 pm, and between 6 pm and 7 am, as well as weekends between 5 pm and 10 am. Closures will be in two locations, between Highway 174 and Youville Drive, and between Jeanne D’Arc Boulevard and Prestone Drive.
McIlraith Bridge – On Thursday May 23, to Friday May 24 between 9 am to 3 pm daily, the McIlraith Bridge will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Main Street and Smyth Road, for a bridge inspection. Traffic signage will be in place. Pedestrian, cyclist and motorist are advised to travel with caution when on the bridge during inspection.
Queensway Carleton Hospital – Beginning on Tuesday, May 21, Valley Stream Drive will be closed at the intersection of Baseline Road for two weeks, to install a new watermain. Pedestrians, cyclists and motorists can access Valley Stream Drive from Sandcastle Drive.
Bronson Avenue – Both northbound lanes and one southbound lane will be closed on Bronson Avenue between Arlington and Chamberlain avenues, from Monday, May 20 until the end of August 2019, as part of the Bronson Avenue Reconstruction Project. Only one southbound lane will remain open. Northbound traffic, including OC Transpo buses, will be detoured from Bronson Avenue, east along Chamberlain Avenue, north along Kent Street, west along Gladstone Avenue, then back to Bronson Avenue. Westbound access to Highway 417 will still be available via Catherine Street/Raymond Street. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the construction period. Cyclists will be detoured northbound via Percy Street to Gladstone Avenue.
Road Closures related to flooding – Roads in West Carleton-March, Cumberland and Bay wards, as well as the Chaudière Bridge, have been closed due flooding. Residents are advised to avoid areas impacted by flooding and can view up-to-date information on road closures on our Interactive Traffic Map.

Ottawa Race Weekend – The course routes for Ottawa Race Weekend have changed this year, due to construction on Elgin Street and flooding of the Chaudière Bridge. Runners will use one lane of the Portage Bridge instead. New this year, McRae Avenue will be closed for the marathon, and Carleton Avenue will be closed for the half marathon. There will be numerous closures in and around the downtown area on Saturday, May 25 from as early as 1 pm until 9 pm, and on Sunday, May 26 from as early as 5 am until 2 pm. Tulip Festival – Queen Elizabeth Driveway will be closed between Torrington Place and Preston Street from Saturday, May 18 until Monday, May 20, between 10 am and 4 pm daily, for the Canadian Tulip Festival. In addition, the following roadways will be closed on Sunday, May 19, between 8:30 pm and 11 pm for the Tulip Festival fireworks:
The Great Glebe Garage Sale – Additional parking restrictions will be in effect until 4 pm on Saturday, May 25, on Bank Street between Powell Avenue and Fifth Avenue, during the Great Glebe Garage Sale.
