The City’s Audit Committee today received six follow-up reports that focus on improving management practices. The Committee also recommended approving the City’s financial statements for 2018.
The Committee received reports from Auditor General Ken Hughes on the following topics:
Follow-ups are part of a complete audit process. They are conducted to ensure that required measures, as committed to by management and approved by Council, have been effectively implemented.
For these six follow-up reports, the Auditor General found that the City implemented or made progress on implementing recommendations to improve management systems and procedures. The Auditor General also found areas where the City needs to do more work to complete all audit recommendations.
The Audit Committee also recommended that Council approve the Consolidated Financial Statements for 2018, as well as the Sinking Fund Financial Statements, all of which were audited by an external accounting firm.
At the end of 2018, the City is reporting a surplus from operations, net debt of $2.2 billion, total undepreciated capital assets value of $16 billion, for an overall accumulated surplus of $13.8 billion.
External audits found no issues with the City’s financial statements.
These reports will be before City Council on Wednesday, June 12.
