The Finance and Economic Development Committee today received an update on the O-Train Confederation Line project. Progress is being made with fleet availability and testing of trains along the alignment. Rideau Transit Group is submitting a second substantial completion notice within the next 10 days and has proposed a revenue service availability date of August 16, 2019. If this date is achieved, the City expects the O-Train Confederation Line will open in September 2019. The City continues to monitor critical elements of the testing and commissioning program.

Electronic bingo and gaming could soon be available in Ottawa after the Committee approved an agreement as part of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Commission’s Charitable Bingo and Gaming Revitalization Initiative. Local charities would continue to receive a percentage of the winnings to support charitable initiatives in the community.

The Committee also approved declaring as surplus Norm Childs Park, located at 5065 Thunder Road, and directing 25 per cent of the net proceeds from the sale of the park to the development of affordable housing elsewhere in Ottawa.

The City and the Ottawa Champions baseball team have a new agreement for the stadium at 300 Coventry Road. The 10-year lease has been replaced with a facility-use agreement that will allow the team to continue to use the stadium going forward.

Items requiring Council approval will be considered on Wednesday, July 10.
