In peak operations, there could be up to 12 team members in the field mapping and monitoring for mosquito larvae. The work has required extra resources, but the amount of money coming to GDG from the city is a lump-sum deal.
The 2019 year isn’t a typical season. Ardis said his team has already used the treatment resources that they used in all of 2018 and there’s still two months left in the 2019 program.
Lianne Zhou, president of the Kanata Lakes Community Association, said the mosquito problem has improved since the city contracted the treatment program. Before, people were “covered in a black cloud” of mosquitoes, and although 2019 has been an abnormal year, it’s still not as bad as the years prior to the program, she said.
