Traffic impacts in Ottawa for the coming days – beginning Thursday, February 6

The following projects and events will impact Ottawa traffic:

Gladstone Avenue – Beginning Friday, February 7, Gladstone Avenue eastbound will close between Elgin and Cartier streets for four weeks to bury hydro wires. OC Transpo routes 14 and 114 will be detoured. Signed detours will be in place and local access will be maintained. Kent Street – Kent Street will close between Gladstone Avenue and Florence Street, and the intersection at Florence and Kent streets will close on Monday, February 10 until mid-March for sewer and watermain work. During the closure, on-street parking will not be permitted on Kent Street, between Florence and James streets. Detours will be in place from Gladstone to Somerset for the closure. Local access will be maintained. Motorist are encouraged to use Bronson or Metcalfe as alternative routes. Sidewalks will remain open to pedestrians. Cyclists can dismount to cross the intersection.

Montreal Road – Motorists should expect intermittent lane reductions on Montreal Road, between Vanier Parkway and St. Laurent Boulevard. This part of the Montreal Road Revitalization project will take place between 9 am and 3:30 pm until Friday, February 14. In addition, Montreal Road eastbound is reduced to one lane at the intersection of Montreal and North River roads. South of Montreal Road, North River Road is closed in the southbound direction until Friday, February 21. Detour signs for traffic and pedestrians are in place.

Winterlude – The following streets will close at the times listed, for Winterlude:

  • Queen Elizabeth Driveway, between Preston and Somerset streets
    • Sunday, February 9, frm 9:30 am to 6 pm
  • Queen Elizabeth Driveway, between Laurier Avenue and Preston Street
    • Saturday, February 8, frm 6:30 am to 6:30 pm
  • Queen Elizabeth Driveway, between Laurier Avenue and Somerset Street
    • Sunday, February 9, frm 11 am to 11 pm
  • Laurier Avenue West, between Nicholas and Elgin streets
    • Saturday, February 8, frm 6:30 am to 6:30 pm
    • Sunday, February 9, frm 11 am to 11 pm
    • One eastbund lane will also be closed between Sunday, February 9 at 11 pm and Monday, February 10 at 4 am

Motorists should also expect lane encroachments until Friday, February 21 on the following streets:

  • Metcalfe Street, between Wellington and Sparks streets
  • O’Connor Street, between Wellington and Queen streets

Fire and Ice Winter Festival – The following streets will close from Friday, February 7 at 6 pm until Monday, February 10 at 1 am for the Fire and Ice Winter Festival:

  • Bank Street, between MacLaren and Florence streets
  • Gilmour Street, between Bank Street and Derby Place
  • Lewis Street, between Bank Street and Derby Place

Demonstration – Traffic disruptions can be expected in the downtown core, including Wellington Street, from noon to 3 pm on Friday, February 7 for a demonstration. Temporary road closures can be expected as the group marches through the area. The Ottawa Police Service will be directing traffic. Follow the City’s traffic account on Twitter for any updates.
