City recognized as one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers

For the eighth time, the City has been chosen as one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers in a competition that recognizes organizations for their exceptional workplace diversity and inclusion programs.

The winners were selected by editors at Mediacorp Canada and are featured in a special section of today’s edition of the Globe and Mail.

We have been recognized for our continued commitment to creating an inclusive work environment and ensuring our workforce reflects the diversity of the community we serve. Specifically, the selection committee recognized the City for:

• Organizing Diversity Cafés where employees can discuss related experiences and issues on topics as wide ranging as mental health, transgender awareness and francophone diversity in the workplace
• Engaging with Equity Ottawa, co-led by the Ottawa Local Immigration Partnership (OLIP), a partnership of organizations working towards equity and inclusion of immigrants and racialized people in Ottawa
• Managing a Youth Futures program that offers leadership training, work experience and mentoring for immigrants, visible minorities and people living in poverty

We have many more diversity initiatives now underway, the newest of which include the development of a Women and Gender Equity strategy and the creation of an Anti-Racism Secretariat.
