| It's been weeks since we had to do the unthinkable and put things on hold. But Ontario has been stepping up in a big way. We threw everything we had at COVID-19. We mobilized 14.5 million people in the fight against this virus. And thanks to our collective efforts, we are in a good place to start getting thousands of people back to work, to open more of our seasonal businesses, and to resume more health services. We could not have done it without the incredible discipline and determination the people of Ontario have shown in fighting this terrible virus. We have laid a solid foundation for our economic reopening and recovery. We have the framework. We have the workplace safety guidelines. We have the capacity in our health care system. We have started to reopen more and more businesses, as it becomes safe to do so and as they can adapt to this new environment. And yesterday, I was pleased to announce that this Saturday, May 16, 2020, at 12:01 a.m., golf courses, marinas, boat clubs, private parks, campgrounds, and businesses that board animals will be allowed to open. There is more good news – on Tuesday, May 19, 2020, we will enter stage one in the reopening of our province. This means the following businesses and services will be permitted to reopen at 12:01 a.m. [Full List Here]:
The health and safety of everyone must always come first. We cannot let our guard down now. We need to stay vigilant. Today’s good news shows that our efforts are paying off and have led us to the first stop in our journey to recovery. It is not the last stop – but it is an important one. If we continue to take our time and get it right by following the medical advice, then we will be able to open more businesses and get more people back to work. And I am confident our economy will come roaring back stronger than ever before. Sincerely, Doug Ford |
