Traffic impacts in Ottawa beginning Friday, May 29

May 29, 2020 – The following projects will impact Ottawa traffic:

Bank Street canal bridge – The curb lanes in both the northbound and southbound directions on the Bank Street canal bridge have been converted to pedestrian walkways. The bridge now has one traffic lane and one pedestrian lane in each direction, between Wilton Crescent and Echo Drive.

Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard and Highway 174 – There will be intermittent on- and off-ramp closures from Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard to Highway 174 from the first week of June to September, overnight on weekdays and weekends for construction of the Stage 2 LRT east extension. There will be digital signs about the closures on-site. Bus stops at Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard and Highway 174 will be relocated. Access for cyclists and pedestrians will be maintained.

Montreal Road – Montreal Road is reduced to one lane in each direction between Olmstead Street and Marier Avenue until the end of August for the Montreal Road revitalization project. The following intersections are closed:

  • Marier Avenue at Montreal Road
  • Olmstead Street at Montreal Road

O-Train Line 1 – O-Train Line 1 will close temporarily and be replaced by R1 bus service from Sunday, May 31 to Wednesday, June 3 so that the Rideau Transit Group can test updated software and do infrastructure and maintenance work. More information is available on octranspo.com.

Queen Elizabeth Driveway – Queen Elizabeth Driveway between Laurier Avenue West and Fifth Avenue is closed to motorists daily from 8 am to 8 pm until Sunday, June 28. Motorists can cross Queen Elizabeth Driveway from the Pretoria Bridge to access Pretoria Avenue. Access for emergency vehicles and OC Transpo buses will be maintained. This closure is a pilot project managed by the National Capital Commission to facilitate physical distancing. Please visit ncc-ccn.gc.ca for the status of the pilot project.

Sir George-Étienne Cartier Parkway – Sir George-Étienne Cartier Parkway between the Aviation Parkway and St. Joseph Boulevard is closed to motorists on weekends from 8 am to 4 pm until Sunday, June 28. This closure is a pilot project managed by the National Capital Commission to facilitate physical distancing. Please visit ncc-ccn.gc.ca for the status of the pilot project.

Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway The westbound lanes of Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway between Booth Street and Carling Avenue are closed to motorists on weekends from 8 am to 4 pm until Sunday, June 28. This closure is a pilot project managed by the National Capital Commission to facilitate physical distancing. Please visit ncc-ccn.gc.ca for the status of the pilot project.

Vanier Parkway – Vanier Parkway will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Presland Road and Donald Street from Friday, May 29 at 7 pm to Monday, June 1 at 6 am to replace a storm sewer and watermain. The sidewalk on the east side of Vanier Parkway between Presland Road and Donald Street will be closed. Pedestrians can use the sidewalk on the west side of Vanier Parkway.
