The City’s Finance and Economic Development Committee today received an update on the City’s efforts to support racialized communities and address systemic racism in Ottawa. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Human Needs Task Force has been supporting racialized communities and applying an equity and inclusion lens to all its activities. The City will hire an anti-racism specialist in the coming weeks to conduct an environmental scan and engage with the public to build an Anti-Racism Secretariat.
The Committee approved appointing Rideau-Rockcliffe Councillor Rawlson King as Council Liaison for Anti-Racism and Ethnocultural Relations Initiatives.
The Committee received a series of 2019 annual reports from the Office of the City Clerk regarding archives, information management, French Language Services and access to information requests.
The Committee approved extending the lease for the Community and Social Services Centre at 2020 Walkley Road. The centre would continue to provide supports to residents at that location until April 2024.
The Committee approved writing off $60,680 in 128 uncollectable invoices for bills like rent, property damage, returned cheques and paid duty police service. This represents 0.1 per cent of the invoices the City issued in 2019.
Recommendations from today’s meeting will rise to Council on Wednesday, June 10.
