Traffic impacts in Ottawa beginning Thursday, June 4

The following projects will impact Ottawa traffic:

Bank Street canal bridge – The curb lanes in both the northbound and southbound directions on the Bank Street canal bridge have been converted to accommodate pedestrians and all active transportation users. The bridge now has one traffic lane and one lane for pedestrians and active transportation users in each direction, between Wilton Crescent and Echo Drive.

Bowesville Road Bowesville Road will close between Earl Armstrong and Rideau roads from Wednesday, June 10 at 10 pm to Thursday, June 11 at 5 am for construction of the Stage 2 O-Train South Extension

Highway 417 on and off ramps The following on- and off-ramps connected to Highway 417 will close as part of the Nicholas Bridge replacement project:

  • Vanier Parkway southbound to Highway 417 eastbound, from Thursday, June 4 at 10 pm until Friday, June 5 at 5 am and from Monday, June 8 at 10 pm until Tuesday, June 9 at 5 am
  • Riverside Drive northbound to Highway 417 eastbound, from Sunday, June 7 at 10 pm until Monday, June 8 at 5 am
  • All eastbound on- and off-ramps at St. Laurent Boulevard from Tuesday, June 9 at 10 pm until Wednesday, June 10 at 5 am and from Wednesday, June 10 at 10 pm until Thursday, June 11 at 5 am

Metcalfe Street Metcalfe Street is reduced to one northbound lane between Frank and Lewis streets until mid-June for watermain and sewer work as part of the Elgin Street Renewal project.

Queen Elizabeth Driveway – Queen Elizabeth Driveway between Laurier Avenue West and Fifth Avenue is closed to motorists daily from 8 am to 8 pm until Sunday, June 28. Motorists can cross Queen Elizabeth Driveway from the Pretoria Bridge to access Pretoria Avenue. Access for emergency vehicles and OC Transpo buses will be maintained. This closure is a pilot project managed by the National Capital Commission to facilitate physical distancing. Please visit ncc-ccn.gc.ca for the status of the pilot project.

Sir George-Étienne Cartier Parkway – Sir George-Étienne Cartier Parkway between the Aviation Parkway and St. Joseph Boulevard is closed to motorists on weekends from 8 am to 4 pm until Sunday, June 28. This closure is a pilot project managed by the National Capital Commission to facilitate physical distancing. Please visit ncc-ccn.gc.ca for the status of the pilot project.

Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway – The westbound lanes of Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway between Booth Street and Carling Avenue are closed to motorists on weekends from 8 am to 4 pm until Sunday, June 28. This closure is a pilot project managed by the National Capital Commission to facilitate physical distancing. Please visit ncc-ccn.gc.ca for the status of the pilot project.

Uplands Drive – Uplands Drive will close between Breadner Boulevard and EY Centre’s northern entrance from Monday, June 8 at 10 pm until Tuesday, June 9 at 5 am for construction of the Stage 2 O-Train South Extension.

EventProtest – On Friday, June 5, traffic disruptions are expected to begin at 3 pm in the downtown core, especially near Wellington Street and Sussex Drive for a peaceful protest. Commuters in the downtown core are advised to plan accordingly and use alternate routes. Live traffic updates will be available on the City’s traffic account on Twitter.
