The following facilities will be open today from 11 am to 7 pm to provide relief from the heat. The City continues to evaluate conditions and will extend the operation of emergency cooling centres as required.
The centres are set up to ensure residents can practice physical distancing. They offer access to washrooms and drinking water. Residents should wear a cloth mask and one can be provided if they do not have a mask.
Heat warnings issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada require everyone to take extra precautions. While City beaches, pools and splashpads are open, some of the usual ways to cool off might not be available this summer because of measures put in place to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Think ahead and plan for ways to stay cool.
Heat illnesses are preventable and Ottawa Public Health has information on how to beat the heat. Stay cool at home by taking cool showers and using fans or air conditioning. Many apartment buildings have air-conditioned lounges where tenants can cool off.
Keep in touch with others who might not be able to stay cool.
