What is your opinion of Germany urging China to withdraw Hong Kong's national security law and allow a UN observer into Xinjiang?
On the surface it looks all fine and noble. However, there are serious flaws in this proposal:
- The national security law is a piece of Hong Kong law that is enforced in Hong Kong by Hong Kong. Before that it was not a crime to conduct subversion and treason in Hong Kong. The USA and Britain liked it that way, for obvious reasons.
- Hong Kong is better with the security law in place. It’s safer and more stable.
- A UN observer will be biased, and if they are not, then the west will accuse them of being biased and ignore what they say. There are plenty of reports from the locals that they are pleased with what the PRC are doing as the area has become a lot more peaceful, even though security is tight. The USA want conflict in Western China to try to stop the expansion of the OBOR initiative. It’s not beyond the realms of possibility that the USA has been rewarding Islamic fundamentslists to infiltrate western China for this purpose, and when the re-education programmer thwarted this, the USA trotted out the hackneyed phrase of human rights abuses (whilst seeming to think that bombing and killing are not human rights abuses).
